You have most likely come across a video from Sydney-based musical comedy trio Axis of Awesome in the last couple of years, whether it was their brilliant medley of homogeneous pop songs in 4 Chords or even the hilarious Rage of Thrones.

About a year or so ago the beard of band member Jordan Raskopoulos went missing and despite its irrelevance to their ability to make music, the fandom put a lot of focus on the lack of facial hair.

Well, today they can calm their troubled minds because the group have posted a fantastic video via their facebook to explain “the story behind that wayward facial hair and the reason why it’s never ever coming back”, with Raskopoulos sharing that she is in fact a transgender women, currently undergoing transition.

In a personal video that carries Raskopoulos charming wit, she details her initial decision to “not deny it anymore” and begin the process, as well as how she had to overcome the idea that her comedic career had to end because of the transition.

“Initially I though I would have to give up being a comedian and that transitioning and maintaining my life as a performer and singer were mutually exclusive…then I reached another point where I was like ‘fuck that’. I’m going to carry on doing what I love and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it,” Raskopoulos said.

“Being trans doesn’t mean you have to give up on your life, or your friends, or your family, or your career, or your achievements. I’m going to continue doing exactly what I was doing before, and I’m going to be fucking awesome.”

Well said.
