Made up of Cleo Tucker on guitar and Harmony Tividad on bass, Girlpool met at L.A. DIY venue the Smell and the two quickly grew very close. The pair bonded over the lack of female presence in the music scene, and feeling undervalued as performers. “It’s like people expect that girls are not as musically competent,” Tividad told L.A. Weekly. “I was sick of being shoved to the side.”
With a minimal sound of only guitar, bass and vocal harmonies, Girlpool took that frustration to create honest songs that are candid, raw and in many ways vulnerable with their bare bones instrumentation and introspective lyrics.
The band have announced today that they’ll be heading to Australia next year, playing three shows at the end of January in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Supporting them for the Melbourne show will be Summer Flake whose EP Time Rolls By was released earlier this month. Tickets are on sale now.
