With her second album Kill It Yourself receiving copious amounts of praise (and rightly so) already within its first two weeks of release, Jess Ribiero has premiered the video for second single ‘Hurry Back To Love’.

Set against muted coloured backgrounds that sit comfortably under Ribeiro’s composed crooning, the song that was written on a scrap of paper after an argument with her boyfriend pads pleasantly as the band plays and dances and irons?

Kill It Yourself comes after a three-year hiatus in which the songwriter began her collaboration with Mick Harvey (PJ Harvey, The Bad Seeds) who produced and played on the record. The two were recently the subject of a mini-documentary where they discussed their working relationship and the events which lead up to the making of this album.

“The songs from this record were a messy response to feelings of loss I had around the ending of a phase in my life. Everything I felt certain about died and I became disillusioned about the world and my place in it. This feeling peaked In the Moab desert in America when we went to some big box take-away joint full of obese people. There’s always crappy food in remote places, its really nasty. It’s the same in Australia…

I got out at Denver and caught a plane to New York city. Surely I could find Patti Smith and talk to her about life and poetry.  A song started playing in the car, one Mick had worked on as a producer and I thought after I speak with Patti I’d go home to Australia and write to Mick to see if he’d work with me. I went to New York and visited the Chelsea hotel, I know, thirty years too late. Well they were hospitable and gave me cool drinks and leather chairs to sit in. I found out Patti was in Scandinavia with Russell Crowe, serious, look it up on youtube. Anyway I met a man at the Chelsea hotel who showed me around, he lived there, is a fortune teller, his friends own a hair salon upstairs. They took me in, read my tarot cards, washed and cut my hair- I hadn’t washed it in five weeks..
Then I came home and started on the record…”
