With it’s name playing on a pun, Transgenre is a celebration of the multifarious musical fancies of Australian Trans and GNC performers. Complete with music, DJs, poetry and performance art, the mini festival will party with anyone who wishes to listen to some good tunes while supporting the Australian Trans and GNC creative community.

In its inaugural year, Transgenre aims to provide audiences with a showcase of Australian talent, taking the current amplified discussion of Trans and GNC people and their achievements to “harness the energy surrounding conversations about transness and gender non-conformity to celebrate the beauty, originality and hard work of these artists.”

The lineup stretches from the “highly percussive dark ambient pop” of Simona Castricum to Spike Fuck‘s alluring “Smackwave”, from coral ceto‘s accordion-fuelled aquatic themed folk to the punk folk gloaming of Two Steps on the Water.

Transgenre will take place at Howler, Melbourne on April 3rd. Tickets are available here. In the event’s Facebook page, organiser June Jones has given attention to the online ticketing system’s necessity to specify a binary gender when purchasing tickets. Jones has offered anyone who is made uncomfortable by Moshtix’s binary gender choices an alternative purchasing option because, in Jones’ words, “TRANSGENRE is 100% not into the gender binary. Which is not to say that we don’t believe that woman or man are valid genders, but that those two alone constitute a false dichotomy.”
