Charlie Hilton, known up until now for her work in alt rock band Blouse, has been working steadily on a solo debut. With a title that nods to Hilton’s give Sanskrit name, Palana, the album is a freely experimental LP that shines beautifully through the shifting creation of cacophony and tranquility.
Released in the last month of 2015, ‘100 Million’ is a hushed number that sings of a curious love, the acoustic instrumentation coupled with lyrics like ‘We fall in love but we keep falling don’t we’ makes for a stunningly soft song. Labelmate Mac DeMarco lends his talents to the track while Hilton’s lilt washes over it like the gentle motions of waves spilling along the shoreline.
The entire album is currently available to stream on Hype Machine if you, like me, have been swept away by Hilton’s captivating ‘100 million’. Palana is due for release Friday 22nd January 2016.
